OVERVIEW OF
CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF CHILDREN (CIC) GRADES 1-3
Children in grades 1-3 who have not yet been baptized will be placed in a
limited CIC process which will
consist of attending their regular weekly religious education class and
meeting periodically as determined on a case-by-case basis with the D.R.E.
Parents will be expected to attend the these classes with their children.
The Sacrament of Baptism may be
celebrated at the monthly -scheduled parish baptisms, or a particular date
may be set for the children
involved in this CIC process sometime in the spring. ATTENDANCE AT
SUNDAY LITURGY IS REQUIRED. (Children in Kindergarten will not be part
of this process. Parents will attend the parish pre-baptism sessions and
then choose a date for baptism.)
Second grade children will also be prepared for First Eucharist in their
regular weekly class, and parents
will be expected to attend the meetings for First Eucharist.
Third grade children needing preparation for First Eucharist will attend
their regular weekly class, and will
be given Eucharist materials to work on at home with parents and will meet
periodically with the D.R.E.
Parents will be expected to attend the parent meetings for First
Eucharist, and their children will also
participate in the Agape and First Eucharist Retreat.
OVERVIEW OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF CHILDREN (CIC) GRADES 4-8
Children in grades 4-8 who have not been baptized, or who have not
received First Eucharist and First
Reconciliation, will be placed in the CIC process. They will be registered
in the Religious Education
program and participate in their regular classes.
Parents will be given additional material to work on at home with their
child and are expected to attend
the parish CIC classes with their child. Parent and child will meet
periodically with
the D.R.E. The Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and
Eucharist) will be celebrated at the
Easter Vigil. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated with the
rest of the parish at the end of
Lent or for 4th graders together with their class mates.
Parents are expected to support their children in their initiation
journey, and to participate in weekly
parish Sunday liturgy with their children. There is no greater gift a
parent can give a child than worshipping together at Mass.
