Function
Prepare the altar and assist the presider in the celebration of the Mass.
Structure
Altar servers are asked to select a minimum of two Mass preferences that they will commit to serving. This allows coverage for all Masses. Schedules of assigned Masses are issued every 3 months. Each server is responsible for finding a substitute if they are unable to attend their assigned Mass time.
Member Profile
Individuals 4th grade and higher, including adults, are welcome to this ministry.
Time Commitment
Servers are assigned to one or more Masses per month. They must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of Mass, and stay after Mass 5 10 minutes to extinguish candles or assist the presider as needed.
Additionally there is a mandatory training session once a year for 1 2 hours. More experienced servers will be asked to assist with training sessions for new members.
Term of Service
Altar servers are asked to commit to a minimum of one year, with most serving for 4 or more years.
