Instrumentalists
Function
Instrumentalists (such as trumpet, oboe, strings, clarinet, flute,
drums, guitar, etc.) enhance the musical experience of the liturgy by the
beauty of their playing, sometimes as soloists, sometimes as parts over
the singers. Guitar players, pianists and keyboard players serve in
leadership roles as accompanists for the congregation, cantor and choir.
Structure
Instrumentalists
are currently organized by the Director of Music Ministries, Shaun Garner. Most instrumentalists serve on an ad hoc basis, called upon for
special feasts or for specific musical pieces.
Member Profile
Instrumentalists should know
their instrument well, and be able to follow their parts (which sometimes
do not follow the sung parts). Currently, we use flute, clarinet and
cello, but other instrumentalists are very desirable. Pianists who can
help with children's choir, faith formation, play as substitutes at Sunday
liturgies, or for funerals and weddings would be appreciated.
Time Commitment
May be flexible, for a
particular service, or regular (with the choir or with a particular Mass).
It will usually require attending a rehearsal the week of the service.

There are different ways to serve the same Lord,
and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of
us and helps us in everything we do."
