Cantors
Function
Cantors lead the sung worship of the parish community, both at Masses
with choir and without. The cantor proclaims the psalm from the ambo,
brings the community in on sung acclamations and hymns, and often sings a
solo work at the preparation of the gifts.
Structure
Cantors
are currently organized by the Director of Music Ministries, Shaun Garner.
Member Profile
Cantors
must have pleasant voices, easy to follow and understand, abilities in
keeping track of the ritual and music placement, and in learning new music
fairly easily. Specialized training is provided. Auditions are required.
Time Commitment
Cantors
sign up for various liturgies two months at a time. By sharing the load,
no one person is overwhelmed with having to assist at every liturgy or
every weekend. Cantors generally attend practice on Wednesdays at 6:30
p.m. or at a pre-scheduled time with Shaun. It is most helpful to sing
in the choir, but is not a necessary requirement.
Term of Service
flexible

There are different ways to serve the same Lord,
and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of
us and helps us in everything we do."
